Benefits

What is the benefit of owning a FlameSaver Tank versus having a spare tank?

With FlameSaver, you don’t need a spare tank. The benefit of the FlameSaver Tank is that you are given a warning before completely running out of gas and ruining your meal. You can grill with confidence knowing you will have enough gas to finish cooking your meal.

Compatibilty

Do I need a special adapter to connect the FlameSaver Tank to my gas grill?

The fitting on the FlameSaver Tank valve is the standard Type-1 connection, which is commonly found on gas grills. The quick-connect style fitting (Type-2 connection) found on a limited number of grill models will not work with this tank.

Can the FlameSaver Tank be used with other propane gas appliances?

The FlameSaver Tank can be used with other propane gas appliances. Please contact the appliance manufacturer to find out how the FlameSaver Tank will operate with their appliance.

The tank mounting bracket on my grill holds the tank at a slight angle during cooking. Will this have an affect on my FlameSaver experience?

Most likely it will. Depending on which direction the tank leans and how far it leans could cause the tank to shut off sooner or later than expected. FlameSaver was designed for use in a fully upright position.

How does the FlameSaver work?

The FlameSaver Propane Tank with built-in reserve is a revolutionary idea that will address the #1 concern grillers have had for years, running out of gas in the middle of a meal, cookout or party. Here’s how it works: FlameSaver is designed to shut off when the propane is close to running out. The griller then flips a switch on the valve of the tank and restarts the grill. After that, there is approximately 60 minutes of fuel available to finish grilling before the tank is empty.

Where are the instructions?

The instructions for the FlameSaver are on the tank itself. There is a label on the top of the tank near the valve that details how to operate the FlameSaver Reserve Switch.

Which end of the Reserve Switch should be sticking out in order for the propane filler to properly purge the FlameSaver Tank?

Whether you vacuum purge or vapor purge the FlameSaver Tank, please push the Reserve Switch to the Green/ON position (Green end sticking out) before beginning the purge process. This is necessary to bypass the shut-off mechanism.

Miscellaneous

I moved my FlameSaver Tank while I was cooking when all of a sudden the cooking appliance burners extinguished. What happened?

The gas in your tank was low enough that when you moved it, you prematurely activated the Reserve mode. To reset the FlameSaver Tank, turn off the grill burners, close the valve’s blue hand wheel, push the Reserve Switch to the Green/ON position (green end sticking out) and then back to the Red/OFF position (red end sticking out), and re-light the grill according to manufacturer’s instructions.

How do I get rid of my old tank once I've purchased a FlameSaver?

Every city has it's own procedure. Contact your local solid waste authority to learn how to dispose of your old propane cylinder in your area.

Operating the Reserve Switch

How will I know when the tank is ready for the reserve mode?

When the FlameSaver tank has approximately 60 minutes of fuel remaining, the grill flame will extinguish. This is your indication that the FlameSaver Tank is ready to be switched to reserve mode.

What do I do then?

Follow the instructions on the FlameSaver Tank. Turn-off the grill burners. Close the blue hand wheel on the valve. Push the Reserve Switch so that the Green/ON end of the switch is sticking out. Then re-light the grill according to manufacturer’s instructions.

Oops…I had my propane tank filled a week ago and I’ve used it a few times. I just noticed I forgot to push the Reserve Switch to the Red/OFF position (red end sticking out). What should I do now?

As long as the FlameSaver has not reached the reserve level, you can push the Reserve Switch to the Red/OFF position (red end sticking out) at any time, even during use. If after you push the Reserve Switch to the Red/OFF position (red end sticking out), the appliance flame extinguishes, the reserve level has been reached. Follow the instructions on the tank to re-light the appliance with the switch in the Green/ON position.

How much cooking time is available after the reserve is activated?

You will have approximately 60 minutes of cooking time after you switch to the reserve mode. The cooking time varies significantly based on the grill settings being used (low, medium, high), the Btu rating of the grill (35,000 Btu, 40,000 Btu), the outside temperature, and a number of other factors. Please refer to the chart on the back of the FlameSaver carton or under Product Info on this website for approximate cooking times based on grill settings.
